My CHU leaked that night (more like around sunrise the next morning while I was asleep...hours after it stopped raining) and I'm getting a new laptop and a new iPod that I had to order yesterday. (I spent Saturday moving to a nice dry, non-leaking CHU...Happy New Year!)
ROFL on the Amsterdam security conversation. (You're just making that up....right?)
They're confiscating shampoo and stuff at the EXITS now? At Customs? I avoid ATL anyway....that place is a zoo. Last time I was there was when I finished mission and breezed through CIF at Benning in '08.
Enjoy the good life in the US and I'm glad I got to meet y'all during your stay on our little base...on a few occasions.
Cheers!
D and I parted ways in Atlanta after clearing CRC. I rented a car nad headed up to Raleigh, then on to Nags Head with a Uhaul to pick up an engine and transmission I bought from a guy who used to post here on FR.
The drive back was long, but uneventful. I remeber driving the same route back in the 80's (when I was in the Army and a lot younger) straight through. I wouldn't try that today.
No, I wasnt making the Amsterdam security thing up. They were "professional", but fun to mess with, unlike the TSA.
Yeah, D had his shampoo confiscated, yet my knife was never noticed. They did send my laptop back through the x-ray for a second time, and they put my carry-on bag on top of it, for good measure. (Weird...)
I hope the weather is holding up for you. As soon as I hit Beaumont, the temps jumped up to the 60's and I had fair skies for the remainder of my trip. The east coast still had patches of snow and frozen water in the ditches.
