The Discovery Channel had a few specials on supereaters, people that eat like this lady all the time. They said that whatever part of the brain tells us we're full just doesn't work for them. If her stomach, which you have to admit looks pretty large, can hold it she'd eat it. The show I watched had people so fat the were in danger of killing themselves from the sheer weight of the fat pressing down on their vital organs. The fact that this lady can still move around enough to get dressed and out of the house doesn't even put her in that category yet.
The thing I find hardest to fathom is the family members who keep bringing food to someone so large they can't even move anymore. These people can't do it without help.
I knew of a patient who was roughly 500lbs whose family would bring him a barrel of KFC in the hospital for him to eat. Not a “bucket”, they used to have a “barrel” size, for family picnics.
I forgot to mention the “couch lady” whose husband would bring her food. She never moved from the couch and her flesh grew into the couch cushions.
That’s very sad. I agree - it’s hard to believe a family member would aid this destructive behaviour. It would be like supplying your loved one with drugs.
