Woman Returns Kids' 'Shop With A Cop' Gifts For Cash Amanda Beard Charged With Theft By Deception By Eric King/WLKY POSTED: 4:09 pm EST December 20, 2010 UPDATED: 5:55 pm EST December 20, 2010 Email Print Comments (18) Embed this VideoxEmailFacebookDiggTwitterYahoo BuzzRedditDelicious Link BRANDENBURG, Ky. -- Meade County police said a Brandenburg woman cashed in on the "Shop With a Cop" program by returning the free gifts for her four children and walking off with the cash.
The woman calls it a big misunderstanding and disputes the charges against her.
Amanda Beard, 28, is charged with theft by deception.
"This is a time of giving, and to needy children, it's just like robbing the Salvation Army," said Meade County Sheriff William "Butch" Kerrick.
Beard's four children were among the record 50 kids who participated in Meade County's Shop with a Cop program on Dec. 11.
The Fraternal Order of Police raised enough money this year to allow each of the needy children to purchase $150 worth of Christmas presents they picked out along with a cop.

So I wonder how much crack or meth it went for?
What a creep. Amazing that there are so many loving families who long for a child and there is this thing who has children she doesn’t appreciate.
The only poverty in America comes from situations where people are or have been on drugs, or other such situations.
Giving them money usually just dooms them to further servitude of their vice.
I know this happens. A clerk at a local Walmart said that a family didn’t even get out of the store before circling around to return the winter coats, gloves and shoes that their kids had gotten through ‘Shop with a Cop’. The way she found out is that when she questioned one of the items as possible not coming from the store because it was all without a receipt the person told her that the cop had just bought it there for them. I can understand taking back something that didn’t fit and exchanging it but to use charity like this is unconscionable. We know who end’s up benefiting, it’s not the kids but their childlike parents.
I have no doubt this woman (or some others) would do exactly what is charged.
People, to use the term loosely, like this voting is why we get Democrats and obamas in office.
“theft by deception”
Our elected do this every day. Squashing the competition?

I believe what you say. Their parents, more than likely know the cops taking their kids to the store because the cops took them to jail at one time or another! Like this woman!
What a shame we have such low life people.
I have a feeling that in the future the shop with a cop program should remove the tags from the items upon purchase to prevent this from happeneing again.
I don’t see why the items “didn’t fit” when the child was there and tried on the hat, coat and gloves. The child picked out what he/she wanted. It was the parents who wanted the $$$ instead.
There are steps that can be taken to prevent this in the future.
I agree but those who will do this will find a way. The only thing one can do is address this kind of thing when it is discovered and know in your heart you did something good even if some behave in a disgraceful manner in response. I take that position when I help someone out. If they choose to dishonor my gift then that says nothing about me. Once I was having my wife help out a family I thought was in need. The mother was complaining that they had no groceries so we’d take care of them and get them food or invite them over. Then I find out they are letting their kids go without food so they can save money for a other optional things and that was it. I will help anyone out if I have it to give but I’ll not be taken for a fool.
White trash.
