I'm changing reserve assignments to the DC area and am hoping somebody can tell me what restrictions exist on carry of concealed blades (since I can't carry my Sigma).

(b) No person shall within the District of Columbia possess, with intent to use unlawfully against another, an imitation pistol, or a dagger, dirk, razor, stiletto, or knife with a blade longer than 3 inches, or other dangerous weapon.

That’s a very interesting law. I’d have to say according to the letter of the law that you may carry any knife you’d like as long as your intent is pure. ;-)
Self defense is certainly a legitimate, legal motive...
(This is not to be taken as legal or professional advice. LOL)
I was wondering about that too. I could always argue that I need my SOG 8" blade for when I encounter the need to cut through 2" rope with ease.
One never knows when one will need to launch an 19th century frigate with haste.
Interesting.
So if one carries a Glock 8mm in a holster and the police don’t see it ...
Frankly, there are BAD areas of DC (mostly east), MD (east of DC), VA (older parts of Arlington, Alexandria, etc where the droves of illegals congregate and commit crimes), you are insane if you don’t violate in DC and protect yourself.
If someone draws down on you, a knife or lesser forms of protection are worthless.
I was going to go with a broadsword, but I figured a cutlass would suit your screen name better...
Be very careful entering federal buildings until you have a feel for the security environment.
Don't whip your 4" tac folder out in the employee lounge to cut your apple.
Carry a revolver, bought with cash. Shoot, drop gun, walk away. Don’t worry, no one will notice.
The law is shown on this page...
For the index, click on home in the upper right corner (see Title 22. Criminal Offense and Penalties).
Current through September 17, 2010
Carrying concealed weapons...
Exceptions...
All Your Dirks Are Belong To Us.
No-one would see it, because it doesn't exist!
Hmm - sounds like the voice of experience! I’ll be at Bolling, then Andrews, then the Pentagon. May as well cover the waterfront, I always say...

You may have seen the links before they all expired, but if you want to see the D.C. Code there is a link to it on this page...

Westlaw wouldn’t let me on - thanks for this link, I didn’t want to have to search Lexis!
