I was at forgive the expression a Christmas party, NPR reporter Nina Totenberg interjected on Inside Washington in the weekends oddest cautionary separation from a common description for a common event, seemingly embarrassed to invoke any religious terminology for Christmas. She didnt say what shed prefer for parties this time of the year to be named. Winter solstice party? Just plain old holiday party? Or a seasonal gathering?

She actually felt the need to literally apologize for using this foul expression.
Does anyone think that Nina Totenberg, or anyone in the media or government or academy, would ever say, “I was — forgive the expression — at a gay wedding”? No, of course not; they would never give that such a slight, classifying it as an actual vulgarity.
But Christmas? To Nina Totenberg and the alien creatures who have, V-like, infiltrated and captured our key institutions, the word “Christmas” is now on par with a lower-grade racial slur.
FUNT
?
I’ll say Christmas Party, thank you.
Holiday Happenin’ just sounds too goofy.
Now don’t get me wrong...I cannot STAND her (never could), but when i saw the clip I thought she was being a bit sarcastic.
At the Final Judgment it will be interesting to watch the chagrined look on these people’s faces when they’re told forgeddaboudit.
She is one of the foulest of the foul.
A spot reserved for such as Eleanor Clift, Helen Thomas, Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldbeg et als.
The expression doesn’t need forgiveness. Her condescension does.
Recently, while driving home from work, I was listening to -- forgive the expression -- a Nina Totenberg while she was blthering on about her social life ..."
She was totally being sarcastic. She was busting on PC and the war on Christmas. NT is a leftist hack but she is old school. She doesn’t hate every last vestige of Western civilization like the leftists of today do. Some FReepers might want to lighten up a bit.
From Wikipedia:
“In March 2010, Totenberg’s sister Amy Totenberg was nominated by President Barack Obama to the U.S. District Court in Atlanta”
Small world, eh?
Mike, this comment from the site:
“For the hag who invented the ‘Helmet-Head’ hairdo to be embarrassed it must have been some party! Oh, I’m sorry Nina, ‘forgive the expression’ Helmet-Head! I just meant that you look stupid!”
Yeppers...that is ZACKLY how I took it.
Believe me, I’m no fan of Nina or her network. But this was an official Obama DOJ event. You know and she knows there is no way that it was officially called a ‘Christmas party’. So I actually took this as her own small commitment to truth and rebellion against PC-speak to call it what it was, rather than what the hosting governmental organization would have wanted her to call it.
Except I would NOT be sarcastic if I said that...
Soros, the ACLU, Andy Stern, Hollywood and many others hate Christianity...but we cannot identify them as that’s not PC.
It was a facetious remark, not to be taken seriously.
It seems odd/hypocritical to me that people who can’t even say the word “Christmas” somehow find the time to go to parties for the event. After all, Christ IS the reason for the season. If it weren’t for Him, we wouldn’t be celebrating anything at the end of December.
