SAN FRANCISCO -- A state appeals court on Monday upheld the murder conviction of Susan Polk, 53, who stabbed her psychotherapist husband in Orinda during an acrimonious divorce in 2002 and then acted as her own lawyer at a raucous trial.
A Contra Costa County judge sentenced Polk to 16 years to life in prison in 2007 after a jury convicted her of second-degree murder in the death of Felix Polk, 71, who was stabbed in a cottage on their Orinda property.
The two had met 30 years earlier, when she went to him for therapy as a high school student. They married nine years later.
At her trial, Polk claimed self-defense,

Wow, thanks for the ping. Interesting she FINALLY allows a lawyer to represent her.... on her appeal. I hope she gets the help she needs in jail if, as I assume, she’s mentally ill and not just evil.
The older male therapist influencing vulnerable young women to enter relationships happens more often than most people know. The women arrive as unstable emotional wounded souls and the therapist knows he can easily create a dependency and control them.
At some point, as the therapist is declining in mental and physical capacity, the younger wife finally feels strong enough to rebel and formulate her own identity, much as teeneagers rebel against their parents. That’s when the wars begin....
