Um, you are aware that the Palin family was being trashed in the tabloids before the presidential elections in 2008, right? Surely you remember such gems as “Sarah Palin is not really Trig’s mother, she’s his grandmother”, among others, right? It’s not like all of a sudden after this show aired, that the tabloids said “Hey, I guess now we can finally criticize her!”
I can only say that I think that Sarah Palin is doing this for a few reasons: as Bristol said “Mom, they’re going to make fun of us anyway, and I want to dance”. No matter what Sarah did, she was going to be mocked. So why not do this show. It earns her cash, which she needs. She had to defend herself from countless frivolous lawsuits while she was in office, and I seem to remember that her legal bills were into the millions range. Also, this is the best way to break out of the media echo chamber. Before this show, the first thing that came to mind for the average man on the street (and these clueless idiots vote) when you said “What do you know about Sarah Palin?”, you would most likely hear this “She thinks she can see Russia from her house!” Even though it was Tina Fey and not Sarah who had said it. this show is the best option that she had to break that misconception.
I’m not sure which Republican candidate you support, nor do I really care, as I am not sure that you are a conservative anyway, mainly because most conservatives don’t actively try to sound like Maureen Dowd.
