"You're not cutting it kid." Interesting...who did Coppola want to replace him?

I've always thought Duval, and Caan to a lesser extent, were miscast.

I always thought Caan tried to hard to be Italian. I agree. Miscast. But Pacino was perfect for Michael. I like Duvall. I think he did fine.

Duvall played the adopted consigliere perfectly, the voice of restraint and reason. What amazed me was the movie producer scenes. He was so incredibly normal and businesslike when threatening the guy. Caan played well, but lacked any sense of being Italian, which messed it up.

the man who invented (for non italians) BADABING

or

bada beep bada boop bada bop???

REALLY?

he studied under the tutelage of real NY mobsters to pick up their schtick.

now either Steve Martin (my blue heaven) or Jack Nicholson (Prizzi’s Honor) played terrible guineas....but Caan is next to perfect and I grew up guinea in a wop neighborhood in the Bronx...and yeah there wuz lots of wiseguys you could loin from there....

Caan was supposed to play Michael from what I heard. Instead, he got the part of the elder brother.
