Pinging the HDTV list..
HDTV pings.

Interested in the HDTV ping list?
Please Freepmail me (freepmail works best) if you would like your name added to the HDTV ping list, ( approximately 375 freepers are currently on the HDTV ping list ).
The pinged subjects can be HDTV technology, satellite, cable, and OTA HD reception (Over The Air with roof top or indoor antennas), Broadcast specials, Sports, Blu-ray/HDDVD, and any and all subjects relating to HDTV.
Note: if you search Freerepublic using the keyword "“HDTV”, you will find most of the past HDTV postings.

I’ve had Dish for over ten years. I don’t have any complaints. I like that they play hardball with the programming providers instead of just rolling over and increasing fees to their customers.

I also think the whole Tivo lawsuit thing is ridiculous. It’s a frivolous patent. There is nothing non-obvious about recording to a computer disk rather than to a tape.

A relative of ours had DirectTV. She called them to complain about service interruptions, but could not get a live person on the line. She called the Better Business Buraeau, and they told her that there were thousands of complaints about DirectTV.

Dish is not the only company with problems.

Besides all the good reasons, the cartoon Assy McGee is broadcast at 6 AM CST to 6:15 on 177W while kids are getting ready for school, followed by another indecent cartoon, is a good reason to ditch Dish.

Charlie likes to cheat his business partners , the independants that sell and install DishNetwork ... Ask any of them about unwarranted chargebacks.

I stopped watching dishnetwork when they phased out the last ROM11 cards ,, before then I was wide open on DishPlayers running ROM2’s with my own software for over 5 years. The ROM10X cards are a little tricky but can be opened.

I'm glad I didn't get Dish Network because they have a history of getting into spats with program providers almost as bad as Cablevision in the US Northeast.

Dropped dish in 2003 when we got the high speed internet up and running on our country property. Sold the house in town, put up an antenna for local news and weather and life is good.

Dish got the boot mostly because they liked to surprise us with activated premium channels frequently popping up things that we really don’t want the kids to see. My wife called and told them to knock it off, they told her that they would give us free movie channels from time to time and there was nothing she could do to stop it. They were wrong.

The self-righteous comments by the “I don’t own a TV” collective on an HDTV thread are curious.

How different is this from declaring that “I don’t vote!” on an election-based thread, or stating that you don’t eat meat on a thread about BBQ?

As for Dish, I loved their DVR box, and had been told by people who had TIVO that it sounded a lot like their interfaces when I described what it would do. They’d be out of business if they lost their DVR because the signal outages were enough to chase me away a few months ago after 4 years with them. I despise my Scientific Atlanta cable box (it’s hard drive is 20% the size it should be) but at least I always have a signal now.
