Los Angeles -- To hear him tell his story, John Wesley Ewell was the victim of an overly harsh criminal justice system.
The South Los Angeles hairstylist complained to journalists over the last decade about the unfairness of the states tough three-strikes law, saying he lived in fear that even a small offense would land him back in prison for life.
He even appeared on the The Montel Williams Show to argue the case against three strikes. A caption that flashed on the screen when Ewell spoke read: Afraid to leave his house because he has two Strikes.
But Ewell is now charged with killing four people in a series of home invasion robberies that terrorized the South Bay this fall. On Tuesday, he pleaded not guilty during a brief appearance at the [LAX] Airport Courthouse.

And this year, after Ewell was arrested three times for allegedly stealing from Home Depot stores, a judge agreed to delay sending Ewell to prison so he could take care of some medical problems.
It was during that delay, authorities say, that Ewell robbed three homes and killed the victims.

Nice...
Three strikes was a brilliant cause. Too bad you can’t trust the judicial system to be honest and keep the folks behind bars.
My heart goes out to the families that have to live with this.
Ewell, may you rot in jail, then hell...
Never fear, the great Kamala Harris is coming to the rescue...(of the criminals).
Can't really depend on the justice system for justice and the police are under no obligation to protect the citizens. We've got to do it ourselves.
Two to center mass, one to cranial enclosure.
Right! Must allow for possible body armor.
So I wonder if the talk shows will invite him back to talk about this? I guess that would not fit with their agenda.
“Ewell was arrested three times for allegedly stealing from Home Depot stores”
Only god can predict homicidal behavior. Not the judge or cops. Who knows a guy steals an electric drill or a pack of nails. We need discretion and be able to trust the judicial system. Three strikes doesn’t determine anything.
Right. Not even after strongarm robbery convictions, a drug habit, and binding a victim's hands during a violent armed robbery...
The District Attorney's Office: The time-honored destination for law school graduates who ended up at the bottom of their class.
If they had put away the animals in the Cheshire CT home invasion murders that could have been avoided too. Those pieces of garbage were in and out of prisons and halfway houses for years. Ridiculous.
