I just stumbled across this delicious little piece of nonsense. They attack Boehner for saying that Democrats are trying to "snuff out the America I grew up in."

Allow me to get the ball rolling on what's wrong with this article:
" the top marginal tax rate on wealthy earners was 90%. It had gone up there during the war, and five, 10, 15 years after armistice, no sizable group, Democrat or Republican, felt any strong urge to lower it."
A favorite liberal myth. The 90% tax rate under Eisenhower only existed on paper. In practice, there were lots of loopholes at that time.
" private-sector union membership was around or above 30%. Todays figure is 7%. The right to form a union was broadly accepted. Outside of a few small turbulent pockets, there was no such thing as todays union-busting law firms hired by management to go into workplaces and intimidate workers."
That was before unions became totally corrupted and greedy. Aside from that, there were no public sector unions then.
"Should any political party attempt to abolish social security, unemployment insurance, and eliminate labor laws and farm programs, you would not hear of that party again in our political history. There is a tiny splinter group, of course, that believes that you can do these things. Among them are a few Texas oil millionaires, and an occasional politician or businessman from other areas. Their number is negligible and they are stupid."
No one is talking about abolishing the social safety net. Another liberal myth. I think the real problem we have is with Obama and his kind giving handouts to illegal immigrants and nonproductive citizens as a way of waging class warfare and vote-buying.
The writer also mentions that the government spent $100 million to build the interstate system. True, but that was back when we had money to burn. The Obama stimulus merely added to a huge existing deficit and produced nothing.
Finally, this guy has the nerve to claim that Obama and the Democrats are governing like 1950s Republicans. I can't even begin to explain what's wrong with that statement.
Comments?
I don't see a problem with that part!?
In KC we call the paper:
Kansas City Red Star. Or the Kansas City Falling Star.
Given that and your sign-up date of 10/25/2010, I smell ozone.
“I am loath to defend the Red Star, but I note that this piece is an opinion piece, and that you’ve interspersed it it with your own editorial comments without distinguishing the writer’s words from your own.”
I used quote marks to distinguish the original wording.
“Given that and your sign-up date of 10/25/2010, I smell ozone.”
I’m not exactly sure what you’re getting at here. Maybe you object to the way I linked the article up? If so, I’ll do it differently in the future.
