I have to admit that it was nice to see another side to Axelrod. It is obvious they have been through a lot BUT it does make me wonder...WHY NOW? I kept thinking that it is very odd that they are becoming public about this story and with FNC? Sorry but I am sure there is ulterior motive going on with that guy!

C’mon, really? You post a complaint about a story about a guy with a sick kid? What is the matter with you?

But if they did a story about a conservative’s struggle with a sick kid, it would be okay?

It’s just a weekend human interest story. Can’t you put politics aside and have some compassion for the guy and his family?

Where am I, DU?

Parents worry about their kids their whole entire lives, from the moment they are born. I can’t imagine knowing they are unable to care and take care of themselves while outliving their caretakers. I don’t care who they are, or what political party they might belong to, it is still a sad story and I’d never want to be in their shoes nor pass judgment in appearing on FOX with “their” story.

I think any report that shines a light on the disease of epilepsy is worthwhile.
And it broke my heart to see their daughter. She seems like a lovely girl who has suffered greatly most of her life.

On the other hand when they mention the drug that seems to have stopped her seizures I wondered how they could associate themselves with/be an architect of an administration that demonizes the pharmaceutical industry.

Fox 'not really news,' says Axelrod. A little ironic, yes?

I saw it. I felt very sorry for them and for their daughter. Let’s not fall to the level of DU. It was a piece about a family and a child with a terrible burden. Regardless of the father’s politics we should be sympathetic to the problems his daughter faces and how that affects him and his wife.

Axelrod is a core communist and one of the main destroyers for both Clintons and the Obama administration. He’s as dirty as they come, and has personally caused massive grief for this country.

What is pathetic are those who don’t realize that he’s so low as to hide behind his own sick children to try to spin himself in a positive light. Notice Obama’s tanking? Notice Axelrod is a main power behind Obama? Notice after Obama, Hillary’s going to leap onto the stage again - and Axelrod needs a poistive shift from one to another?

Jeez people, wake up. Chilled poison runs in Axelrod’s veins. While you’re looking at his children and doing your generalized association with them and thereby emotionally reforming HIS media presence, he’s laughing in YOUR face.

That Fox News is helping him do this, instead of MSNBC or CNN, is all you need to know about trusting Fox News.

Good grief, people...

His daughter has epilepsy, and he and his wife did a remarkable job raising her. The show did a great job of showing what parents of kids with such an illness goes thru.

I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to walk a mile in their shoes.

Politics aside.

Sometimes this bunch, Free Republic makes me sick.

I can't watch FNC anymore except for Glenn Beck.

I watch several shows on Fox Business Network, though.

Judge Napolitano, Stossel and Follow the Money are my faves.

Insurance doesn’t pay for long term care. Those us with special gifts from heaven pay out of pocket to give them the care they need.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU? That story actually made me remember he’s a human being. I didn’t know places like that home existed and I’m sure that report will bring in much needed money for it. Shame on you.

Lauren, 29, had her first epileptic attack when she was just 7 months old, and over the next 18 years those attacks became so severe that she could experience as many as 25 a day. The attacks did permanent damage to Lauren’s brain and left her developmentally disabled.

In 2000, while she was in the middle of another severe attack, Lauren’s doctor told the Axelrods about a new anti-convulsant drug known as Keppra. In just a few days after taking the medication, all her seizures disappeared. She became healthy, but she still needed round-the-clock care.

With Lauren’s health improving each day, the Axelrods were worried about their own mortality and their daughter’s future. They found a place called Misericordia, which means “Heart of Mercy.” The Chicago-based home for the developmentally disabled has become a haven for families like the Axelrods.

snip

Running Misericordia costs $54 million a year. Families pay what they can afford, and the rest is made up through state and outside donors. “We have to raise $14 million this year, that’s the deficit,” says Connelly, who is determined to keep up the quality service in these hard economic times.

Today Lauren lives in her own apartment. She cooks, cleans and has plenty of friends — but her favorite activity is working out.

“I love the treadmill,” she says. “Yeah, I burnt 165.2 calories today and I did three miles today, too.”

She is happy and thriving, her father says. “I realize that what we gave her was the opportunity to have a life of her own, and it’s a wonderful thing,” Axelrod says.

snip

Axelrod will return to Chicago in the spring to be closer to his family and to begin working on the president’s re-election campaign. He and his wife, Susan, meanwhile, will continue their fight against epilepsy by speaking to families all over the country.

Susan has created her own foundation, CureEpilepsy.org, which raises money for research.

Axelrod’s daughter, Lauren, presented the painting Monday after a speech her father gave at a $250,000 fundraising event for Misericordia, a North Side facility for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

Reflecting his newfound celebrity and clout, the event drew nearly 400 people, including virtually every statewide elected official — with the exception of Gov. Rod Blagojevich — as well as numerous Chicago aldermen and Cook County leaders.

“Lauren is my hero. Because of her epilepsy, she has had many challenges in life, physical and emotional challenges, that most of us have never imagined,” he said. “Mom and I are so lucky to have you. And I just want to say I love you and we’ll see each other often, so don’t worry about this moving thing. I’m coming home for every home visit.”

As public as Axelrod’s recent life has been, he does not often talk about his 27-year-old daughter, who suffered irreversible brain damage following epileptic seizures. She has lived at Misericordia since 2002.

Comments:

David Axelrod(D) has a disabled daughter that drew a painting that’s going to hang in is west wing office...isn’t that sweet.

Sarah Palin(R) has a Down syndrome son, but I don’t recall reading such sweet stories about them.
At least Trig’s parents still want him at home, where he’s loved.

“For many many reasons, this disease has been really kept in the dark ages,” said Susan. “Epilepsy’s been known since biblical times, and yet nobody has really been out there saying, why? Why is this happening? What can we do to stop it?”

******

Wrong, Susan, you just didn’t hear about it because you weren’t involved (until now).
