Our society allows police to subject individuals to even abusive intrusions when such actions are deemed reasonable responses to actions. They stop a speeding car. They search persons and property with reasonable suspicion based on specific and demonstrable facts. They subdue and even kill a citizen in response to escalating levels of violence.
However, TSA bureaucrats are allowed intimate, primal domination of people when they have done nothing to elicit the behavior. The massive, random and warrantless program of body scanners and pat downs creates an environment for institutionalizing the worst demons of the human condition.
This country has before and should never again, suffer the consequences of allowing one group of people dominion over another, when submission was not provoked by the other party’s uncivil behavior. In The Life and Times of Fredrick Douglas, he believed that slavery perpetrated as much emotional and psychological damage on the owner as the slave.

Not only that, they are planning on putting these in other places. Already have courthouses pegged. They also want them in subways/metro stations, train stations, passenger ship port entry/exit, and long haul bus terminals. PLus other kinds of government buildings.

There are much, much easier targets than airplanes, buses or trains.
What's next, the TSA is going to be at every single street corner in America pawing "random" folks for "security" reasons?

That’s been my thought. I joked yesterday that I was late to Thanksgiving because of the “enhanced patdowns” at the supermarket.
Now that the cockpit doors are kept locked during flight and were reinforced to prevent a hijacker from breaking in, a terrorist can’t kill more than a planeload of people, a few hundred people rather than thousands pus billions of dollars in property as in 9/11.
They could kill that many people virtually anywhere: shopping mall, movie theater, city park, sporting event, school, etc. But nobody would stand still for TSA style “security” precautions at all those locations, and they certainly wouldn’t be willing to pay for it.

You could kill 300 people at any of the locations I mentioned — a shopping mall foodcourt at lunch easily has that many people, a supermarket in the middle of Thanksgiving rush has that many people, a movie theater seats that many people. Bringing down the roof of any of those places could be done with a pound of PETN, C4, etc. The 2002 Bali nightclub bombing killed 202 people and injured another 240.
As far as the $100M property damage, I assume you are refering to the airplane itself ? So that is what TSA is there for ? To safeguard the airline’s property ?
