What were they thinking in the 70’s? I was born in 1976 and when I see the old movies/shows I can help but be in shock over how hideous the clothes were! I liked the way people wore their hair, but the color combinations of the clothing were ugly as sin.At least the guys wore their pants the correct way!
Yeah it was pretty horrendous, like those Leisure Suits Hillary still Wears his
Oh, can't let your screen name go by without posting a pic of Curly Bill!
The ‘20s and ‘70s were probably the wildest decades of the 20th century for fashion.
I read an interesting article once about what was the best decade of the 20th century to be a young (18-24 yo) person. The author broke down each decade starting with the 1920s. It went something like this:
‘20s - A crazy decade. Flappers, Model T Fords, bootleg booze, jazz music. Wouldn’t have been a bad time to live in.
‘30s - Life was hard because of the Depression and there was less opportunity for fun, but the decade still had a certain glamor to it.
‘40s - Hopefully your 18th birthday was in the summer of 1945. Otherwise, forget about it.
‘50s - The early part of the decade probably meant that you were going to end up in Korea. Otherwise, the rock-and-roll era was pretty fun. Still had a peacetime draft though, as Elvis found out.
‘60s - “No war! Hell no, we won’t go!” Not the best time to be in the 18-24 age bracket despite some awesome music.
‘70s - (the author’s favorite decade) Great time to be young. Vietnam and the draft ended, and AIDS had yet to come along and spoil the party. Some great rock music before ‘80s hair metal came and ruined it. Disco wasn’t everyone’s cup of tea, though...
‘80s - Almost as good as the ‘70s in this guy’s opinion. As mentioned above, AIDS ended the sexual revolution. Some great music and the rise of computers and video games.
‘90s - Not big on the grunge thing and this decade resulted in the epidemic of rap music that we’re still plagued by. The birth of the Internet.
