You can last a long time without food, particularly if you have fat stored (I didn't click on the article, so I don't know the situation). Lack of water, on the other hand, will kill you in 3 or 4 days.
That’s it, I am putting a computer in the bathroom.....
Make it a waterproof computer and you won’t have to stop freeping just to get in the shower.

And there are other things that could be tried to be used to pop the door latch, that is just one example. Tongue depressor, nail clipper, cuticle scissors, or any combination of these. If the door handle screws are on the inside of the bathroom use these to unscrew and dismantle the door handle to slide the door latch open.
Hell, do what the other person said and flood the bathroom and let it seep into the downstairs apartment, that will get people coming.

We are talking about France. With a few exceptions, what a bunch of wimps! (said not too seriously)
I could even giver her the benefit of the doubt and assume it was a solid wood door. Perhaps too solid to do that to, at least for her. I still think I’d have found a way to get the door latch open with whatever was in the bathroom. Or even try to use the friction of a cotton washcloth/towel and try to turn the broken door handle.
She just sounds like a frightened old woman to me. I am not disputing the soundness of your advice but I would be less critical of her and less apt to cast such a broad net. Many women are not the problem solvers that most men are my nature. Maybe female secret agents are different. :-)
We also know she wasn’t a french muslim. That door would’ve been blown off its hinges.

An average person can survive about two weeks without food or water. Since she was in the bathroom she did have water to keep her alive. If she was overweight? She could survive for a while being that she had water.
GeronL I just have a hard time believing that she lived in an apartment and no one heard her. That is unreal. They say they heard the banging, but no one heard her scream? After two or three nights of the banging I would have gone to the building manager and asked “what is that about?”. Must be what Glenn Beck said, French people are rude, and I thought my neighbors were bad!

Dude, what is really strange is that this is a French Lady ACTUALLY taking a bath! They really do bathe. Who knew? In fact, this woman was in the tub for three weeks, no wonder her neighbors did not check on her. They did not believe she was really in the tub.
