Harry Nilsson ~ Jump Into The Fire ~ Nilsson Schmilsson
Wow!
Clearly, fact-checking is not a stylish thing to do...so pardon my notes:
Joe Walsh joined the group in 1974 when they were already very famous (and so was he: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qF2OP_gFsz4 ). He replaced Randy Meisner (Bernie Leadon was already gone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VL6Fa_1pMCU )
Still no knock on your taste in music though: I’ve seen some great concerts (The Who in SF, Grateful Dead/Who at Oakland, Eric Clapton at the Cow Palace, Traffic at Winterland, etc.) but the most professional concert I ever saw was the mature Eagles just a few years ago at the RBC Center. They still had every ounce of fire they ever had and there is simply no experience like ‘Desperado’ when a grown-up Don Henley sings it.
In the Hard Rock stuff, here’s this not-often-played cut.

Steppenwolf - Rock Me
I’m more familiar with this Harry Nilsson song. Got much more radio airplay.

Nilsson Without You
If it wasn’t on the radio, likely I didn’t hear it. Too poor to buy very many albums!
I heard a story about the title of that song, don't know for sure if it's true but it kind of makes sense.
The song was originally titled "In The Garden of Eden" (Life) and they were to perform it on the Ed Sullivan Show.
The producers or maybe even Ed himself made them change the words as they didn't think it was acceptable.
Maybe someone here can add to this.
That is the one luxury my dad allowed himself, albums. I get this music from my dad, if you can believe it! When he heard a song on the radio that he liked he would purchase the album when he drew his next check. I'm like he was, I like all genres of music except rap.
Do you remember those old reel-to-reel tape decks? My dad used to tape all of his albums. I can see him now, sitting there w/his headphones on (they were huge back then) taping all those albums. His old tape deck still works, but many of the tapes have just disintigrated.
Same story I've always heard about that song.
I'm thinking up some more good ones:)
FWIW, here’s what Wiki says.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida
A commonly related story says that the song’s title was originally “In the Garden of Eden” but at one point in the course of rehearsing and recording, singer Doug Ingle became intoxicated and slurred the words, creating the mondegreen that stuck as the title. However, the liner notes on ‘the best of’ CD compilation state that drummer Ron Bushy was listening to the track through headphones, and couldn’t clearly distinguish what Doug Ingle answered when Ron asked him for the title of the song (which was originally “In-the-Garden-of-Eden”). An alternate explanation, as given in the liner notes of the 1995 re-release of the In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida album, is that Ingle was drunk and/or high when he first told Bushy the title, and Bushy wrote it down. Bushy then showed Ingle what he had written, and the slurred title stuck.

Love the song and the graphics! That’s another great video!
Hows about some “Blue-eyed Soul.”

Flaming Ember - Westbound #9
Whaddaya mean “old” huge headphones. Mine still work purty damn good, LOL! And they cancel out extraneous noise, like ringing phones, barking dogs and nagging wives!!
You're right, don't know why I was thinking Joe was part of the original band.
I heard about them being formed to back up Ronstadt on a recent replay of American Top 40 and just started rattling off names....thanks for the correction.
Interesting, that makes sense too.
I love music trivia!
Thank YOU for the gracious reply. I always idolized JW but I truly never thought he could ever fit into a rock bureacracy like Eagles. Shows how wrong a guy can be. JW was maybe the reason Hotel California was such a great album and he might well be the steadying factor that allowed the rest to chill out and reunite. Everybody (except Don Felder) profited and had a whale of a time. We got new great music. What’s not to like (unless you’re Don Felder).
abb - Ah, that blue eyed soul:) Big ol’ headphones block out nagging wives...LOL!!
All - Ladies and Gentlemen, on your feet for this one, best workout you’ll get all day!

Oh yes! That’s a dance song for sure!
