I was a senior in high school, in the school library when the first rumor came around. The following period, when I was in Social Studies, there was an official announcements.

The most astounding thing about it was that the black kids were acting happy about it. Hi 5s all around.

Probably for the reason that they figured school would be out for the rest of that day or tomorrow.

You should have been living in a town with a large number of Cuban refugee families, as I was. There was literally dancing and celebration in the streets, and many of the locals didn't, couldn't understand why. But all those kids I knew had lost a father, uncle or older brother at the Bay of Pigs, and most blamed JFK for the broken promise of U.S. Navy air support made by their CIA *advisors*.

Well, their leader did say that the "chickens had come home to roost."
