I’d take them over Mitt Romney.

As far as president, I definitely would take a Tancredo in there, but I don't think he has enough of a broad spectrum of appeal to make in that kind of election.

You've hit on what I believe is the central problem facing most of the Republican hopefuls for 2012. Even among the top-tier candidates (Romney, Pawlenty, Barbour, Palin, Huckabee, etc.), only Palin has what you've termed, a "broad spectrum of appeal".

Only Palin has consistently stayed in the news, and made herself highly visible to the voting public over the last two years. Only she has made her voice heard in the national debate on a host of issues. Only she has loudly denounced the Obama regime for their many transgressions against our mores and our established system of government. And none of the presidential hopefuls has taken as active a role in the midterm elections, as Sarah Palin has.

The rest have been practically silent or invisible, in comparison to her.

While the rest of the field were sitting in their easy chairs, quietly plotting possible campaign strategies with close advisers, or spending their time chumming it up with Republican establishment insiders, Palin was busy writing articles for major publications, making public appearances, promoting her book on tour, debating with the Obama admin via her Facebook postings, endorsing dozens of candidates, being a Fox News contributor, and filming her eight part TV special.

To top that all off, she's got another book coming out on Tuesday, the 23rd.

All of this adds up to a formidable public presence, that the rest in the field, combined, can't hope to match. Personally, I don't see how any of her competitors can outshine her, or hope to compete for the attention of the voting public on the same level as her.

This will be one of the critical determining factors that decides who wins the nomination. Her competitors won't be able to best her on policy and platform, alone. They're going to need to have a working relationship with the people, as well, and it appears that none of them come close to being as well known by the public as Sarah Palin is.

I nominate Jim Demint...

Jim DeMint is where he wants to be, and where he is most needed. He's also said repeatedly that he is NOT running for president in 2012.

He also doesn't have a huge groundswell of support for a run at the White House, such as Sarah Palin does.

Having a sterling conservative record and being on the right side of the issues, is only a part of the total package. DeMint would have to show some fairly strong leadership qualities for most Americans to consider voting for him. It's hard to demonstrate that from within the marble halls of the US Senate.

Some Democrat presidents have risen to the office of president from the Legislative Branch, but it's rare for Republican presidents to come from there. Abe Lincoln is the only one I can think of, offhand. Republican voters normally prefer to vote for ex-Governors or Vice Presidents. Ike was an ex-General of the Army, but that was also an executive position.

DeMint would have to break new ground in that area alone, to be elected.

I'm going to get slammed for this... But if we want to win in 2012 I think we need a Giuliani/ Rubio ticket. Maybe a Chris Christie in there, but Christie/Rubio — don't know about two new guys on the scene and Giuliani/ Christie— I know how you'd all feel about two north easterners. I think I'm being a realist, Giuliani can win NY, maybe NJ. Rubio— up the Hispanic vote for the GOP and get Florida. Ohio is in such shape Obama can't win it— do the math, election won. I believe Giuliani will be the best on the war on terror, appoint conservative judges and rid us of all of the czars, Marxist and socialists running this administration. I love Palin but I worry about her polarizing the electorate and Obama squeaking back in. We conservatives would hold Giuliani's feet to the fire so to speak, and having lived in the NY area when he was mayor, I think he's up to the task. Now some one can post his picture in a dress, but I'll take the dress (which was basically a costume) over socialism any day. Bring me a better candidate that can win, and I'll support them. Tancredo can't even win in his home state and Allen West is a first term congressman that I like but I don't think he's ready.

Since I guess I’ve already set myself up to be slammed, what about a Pawlenty/Rubio or Pawlenty/Christie?

Yes! I like Pawlenty or Dement. I thought Demint would consider running. If not, I’ll take Pawlenty/Palin or Palin/Pawlenty. The media thinks (hopes) Palin can’t win, but I’d like to see us take that chance. Rove thinks she can get the GOP nomination. I truly would love Palin to be energy secretary if we could get another good conservative in the White House. She would be PERFECT for that too!
