I am thinking about buying the new 2011 chevy camaro. Does anyone own one or can provide any useful insights on them?

Its 200 lbs heavier than a Ford, has poorer visibility for the driver, and Gm unions screwed Delphi employees.

My insight: It’s made by Gov’t Motors. How quickly we forget.

If you follow one long enough, you’ll wind up in a trailer park.

I know it’s tough, but Government Motors and the large percentage of Chinese IPO purchase, would turn me off
for a while. GM held out its hand for the government
bailout and they are still underwater to uncle sam.
We are grateful that we supported Ford, and the 2007
Mustang California Special feels just right.

Be nice to have a Shelby or a Roush but, who can complain.

I remember that GM rushed out the new Camaro in order to match up with the Dodge Challenger. There was a post here at the time with a list of 40-something things wrong - or that needed to be checked - with each new Camaro. I can’t say those haven’t been fixed, but 40+ things on a brand new car?” Doesn’t speak well for the company or the laborers (union droids) building the cars. I’d pass on a new one and buy a classic muscle-car era one if it were me.

Government Motors sends $500 million in taxpayer money to Mexico:

Been a “Mopar” guy all my life (1928 Chrysler in the garage right now), no more! No more bondholder-shafting/union saving GM or twice bailed out Fiat/Chrysler...Ford or Honda for me from now on!!

I like the idea of them and they look good in photos or at a distance. The direct injection V6 is amazing for very good acceleration and near-economy car highway mileage.

That’s the positive. The negative, they have a nearly cartoonish overkill look to them up close and personal, the proportions get very strange. The interior looks good but doesn’t feel good, way way too much hard plastic. And, you can’t touch one for much less than sticker, around here at least.

If you’re enamored of a modern day Ponycar, go for the original, a Mustang, it’s not as zoomy looking or as “new” as the Camaro, but it’s real, not a Hot Wheels car writ large.

The Dodge, I can’t say much about, other than there are a lot of nearly new ones on the market. Why I can’t say, in a better economy I’d be tempted to say those who bought them new didn’t like them for whatever reason.

If you’re looking for a modern pony car, get the highest line Mustang that your wallet will allow. I say this, regrettably, as a huge fan of the Camaro when I was in high school.

I’ve often heard them referred to as a gay car. I think it comes from some GM ads that were directed at gays to buy camaros. Wherever it came from, the name stuck.

Yes, here’s some insight.

Seriously - buying any GM product is tantamount to making a several thousand dollar donation to Baraq Obama’s 2012 presidential campaign, and to the campaign of every liberal, union-backed candidate at every level of government.
