"I promised her her wedding would go off without a hitch."

Unrealistic expectations. Better to advise a child not to sweat the small stuff and remember a wedding isn't about dresses, caterers, and guest lists. It is supposed to be a celebration of the joining of man and wife, and the guests are there to pledge their support of that union.

Young women need to be taught that the wedding really isn’t ALL about HER. It’s about bringing two families together and making them all feel welcome. If women entered the planning stages with that in mind, instead of with self-centered motives, the wedding, and their marriages, would be much better.

You’re right, of course. But you still have to have something nice to wear, and if their weddings were scheduled for this weekend, finding another dress that fits reasonably well is a bit of a challenge, with all the other last minute things that you must do before a wedding. And suppose you don’t have any money left for another dress? Or you are, say, a little bit on the heavy side, and finding a reasonably well-fitting dress is difficult at best? I can see why that would be a downer before a wedding. My husband and I were madly in love and were having a simple, but elegant, wedding. If my dress had burned up at the last minute, I would have been very upset.
