"It will go from being a dancing competition to a popularity competition..."
It stopped being a "dancing competition" when the show's producers opened it up for viewer voting.
If they want it to be a dance competition, it shouldn't be "Dancing with the STARS", it should be "Dancing with professional dancers".
The "STAR" element of the show automatically makes it not so much about the technique of the dance, but turns it into a "popularity" and "fan base" program. The judges are just there to lend a sense of "officialdom" to the contest and try and sway the voting audience with their knowledge of dancing and SNIDE remarks.
They are like today's Federal judges, judging against the will of the people.
I'm guessing the mere fact that Bristol is on the show (given Sarah's popularity) and this controversy has started, that the show will have record-breaking (for them) ratings this year.
If it all backfires on the producers and the show is cancelled, then blame the producers for poor planning - not Bristol...or Sarah.
So as you can see, we are in agreement.
