So in answer to your question, yes, I’ve been here since ‘98 and didn’t know what it means.

It took me a while to figure out what "LOL" means. It's sickeningly overused, unless people are literally laughing out loud every time they use it.

Then we get "roflol", rolling on the floor laughing out loud. If people are literally doing that, they need to be put in the nut house.

There are many others used on here and I don't know what they mean and don't really care to learn to speak in abbreviations.

Use them on my friend and fellow member "DaleReed", and see what he tells you.

I have a little antecdote regarding how we have come to rely on abbreviations in communicating.

My two little granddaughters, ages 9 and 7 at the time, were over at my house with my daughter, their mom. My daughter was drinking a root beer and the younger girl wanted some root beer as well. My daughter was adamant that she couldn’t have any. As a grandmother, I felt sorry for the child, so I told my daughter, “Oh, give her a little S-I-P.” As soon as I said that I realized that my 7 year old could spell simple 3 letter words. But instead, she and her older sister were puzzled. “Mom, what does S-I-P stand for?” They were insistent that we tell them, and it took us a few minutes to realize that they thought it was an e-mail abbreviation.

We got a good laugh at that one.
