Is it an “all-girl” sport with a rule prohibiting males, or is it a game that is traditionally played by girls? If the rules don’t prohibit it, and if he’s good, he can play. Period.

Every now and then the ACLU makes a stink and forces some school to allow a girl onto a male team and to let her into the male locker room. I see a double standard at work here. I say he should stay on the team.

I agree. In fact, in some states, it stated in their rule book that you can have an co-ed team as long the sport is not played by two separate genders. In other words, in this case, if the boys do not have a field hockey team, then they can be in the girls team. This is why you hear many girls in football team. Since they do not have a girls (tackle) football team, they can be in the football team. It is strange when you think about it. Like you said, if no rules prohibiting of a co-ed team, then it is legal.
