We killed them off in the 1800’s for a reason.....

And we did the same with wolves for the same reason . . .

I've got nothing against either as long as they stay in the mountains or wilderness preying on deer or antelope.

But when they come down into human territory to prey on livestock or children, then they need killin'.

The irony of the relatively recent restrictions and bans on hunting mountain lions is that it has caused them to become more dangerous to man. A small part of that is an increase in the lion population. (along with more people in lion country which is not a result of those laws)

Like most animals when lions are hunted they become wary of man and stay away from people much more. It takes a very short time for animals to realize that they will not be stalked or challenged and they become quite bold.

Along with the lack of hunting pressure people are more and more treating wild animals like pets. They like to feed deer in their yards just to see them and that attracts lions. If a lion strolls through their yard they grab a camera instead of pots and pans to bang. Same with bears.
