In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of "Word for the Day".
ineluctable \in-ih-LUK-tuh-bul\ : adjective
Not to be avoided, changed, or resisted : inevitable
Example sentences:
Even the best athletes have to contend with the ineluctable fact that they will grow older and must someday face opponents who are younger, faster, and stronger.
"The breadth and sweep of Ms. Mearns's dancing is extraordinary here, and she has an apparently instinctive sense of how to imprint a movement momentarily on the eye, even as it seems part of an ineluctable flow."
-- From an article by Roslyn Sulcas in the New York Times, September 27, 2010
Etymology:
Like drama, wrestling was popular in ancient Greece and Rome. "Wrestler," in Latin, is "luctator," and "to wrestle" is "luctari." "Luctari" also has extended senses -- "to struggle," "to strive," or "to contend." "Eluctari" joined "e-" ("ex-") with "luctari," forming a verb meaning "to struggle clear of." "Ineluctabilis" brought in the negative prefix "in-" to form an adjective describing something that cannot be escaped or avoided. English speakers borrowed the word as "ineluctable" around 1623. Another word that has its roots in "luctari" is "reluctant." "Reluctari" means "to struggle against" -- and someone who is "reluctant" resists or holds back.
The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-)

WFB's attempt to emulate us ; ) No pushing at the door please!
What can I say ... my life has no meaning now ....
Taxes rising next year - ineluctable?
Doubtless we’ll lose some deductible.
While the Senate and House
Plan to posture and grouse,
Obama will continue to chuck the bull...
A+ for you. We have to enjoy the Republican takeover of the House until hockey improves.
Good! James Inhofe is making the same points. People react to the word earmark and need to understand the issue.
Err, reread the article. Cobrurn and Inhofe are polar opposites on this one.
Thanks. Please don’t do anything rash.
oh,i just read the bullet points. hard to read long pieces on the phone. i am interested to see what Inhofe presents on the floor on Monday.
LOL, it was funny, I was first going to do a soundalike take on the word, but Hoodat beat me to it in #21 ... OK, go with the usual anagram, but then I beheld your superlative post. (oh noes!)
Anyway, I guess I settled on the tried-and-true limerick. ;)
I used an older ping list this morning so here is your better-late-than-never-just-for-you ping. :-)
When we get a word with a lot of potential anagrams, I find it hard to resist the temptation to get involved, even though it takes me a half hour to an hour to come up with anything I could be reasonably proud of. I can knock off a limerick in 5 minutes or less. Sometimes I wonder if it is worth the time and effort, but then I get a laudatory post from a skilled fellow anagramist, and it’s all worthwhile. Thanks for the kind words.
Home and unable to get my car fixed till tomorrow-my temperature gauge came in at 2:30 pm, so I had to crawl through my car window today, much to my embarrassment and the amusement of onlookers-so I smiled and laughed with them like it was all good fun-that f***ing car always has a gremlin attack at the worst possible time.
My daughter has no classes tomorrow and is coming out here in the morning so we can go to SA and do grocery shopping together-one of our favorite things to do ever since she has had her own household. We buy the big family packs and split them up for both our households into freezer bags, saving some money and having a good time together at the same time. I’ll drop my car off at the mechanic neighbor’s shop on the way out...
Nasty Nancy has fired a shot
Across the ‘rat ship’s bow-
She still wants it all her way
And damnit, she wants it now
Never mind that doom will follow-
Her attempts at amnesty and such-
Though that fact is ineluctable
She remains totally out of touch
I’m sure the loss of her gavel,
The jet where her family binged
And the coming curb of the taxes
Have left her mentally unhinged
can we start with the czars?
I fell asleep waiting for my ineluctable ping.
};^)
Did y’all happen to see John Stossel’s affirmative action bake sale segment? I was LMAO over the outrage of the people who came up to the booth-most of them missed his point completely-are so many people really so blind to subtle statements?
the way I look at it is this.....Michelle Bachman speaks people listen.....she doesn’t need a title to be a leader, she leads by just being her.
I SAW that! what a hoot. I loved the black family who were so outraged that they could buy them cheaper. LOL it was great.
Are the czars fed employees? If so, definately start with them-then de-fund/get rid of the dept of education, HHS, energy dept and most of the EPA. Cut non-military fed employees salaries and lay off about 1/2 of them, then go after their unions/pensions/and other tax-funded goodies-let them share the pain of treading water along with the rest of us plebs...
