You make a good point about preventing inmate suicide. I never realized the danger of letting it become common, so that murders by other inmates or employees could be covered up. I always appreciate getting insights like that on an issue.
Similarly, I never had a good opinion of defense lawyers until I realized that without them, we’d have a police state. I have a lot of respect for police but we can’t let them have too much power, or there would be a lot of corruption.
“Inconvenient” prisoners already die in custody on a semi-regular basis. Jim McDougal, Kenneth Trentadue, etc. I bet you could find a dozen more on the Clinton body count lists.

This undoubtedly happens all the time to street criminals in the joint. The attacks can easily be blamed on gang disputes.
