My wife is the “expert.” The last of Journey I remember that made a dent was “Separate Ways” in 1983 at spring break in Panama City Beach, FL.

He’d had a stroke when he wrote that, and died himself two years later. It’s one of the last studio recordings he ever did. The whole album was dedicated to his father.

This gets me thinking of “lasts” and male singers. Jerry Garcia. “Box Of Rain.” Last song ever performed live by The Grateful Dead with Garcia. Written by a band member to his father in declining health.

There’s another one that gets me.

Isaac Hayes, too. But sadly they’re all dead.

For sheer wierdness: That Byrne guy from Talking Heads.

Russell Mael from Sparks. Almost 60 years old, and still going strong. 21 albums in 21 concerts in 21 days. Wow.

Don MaClean. I have a live disc from Britain. Incredible.

The guy from A-Ha who sang like his nuts were in a vise.

Phil Harris. More than just Balloo the Bear.

Norm Fox of the Rob Roys. Doowop extraordinaire.

Sorry. Can't narrow it down to ten. Now I'm off to bed, where I'll have nightmares about Tiny Tim doing Stairway to Heaven and Hey, Jude. Thanks a lot.

I’ll go with Warren Zevon as a great, but his singing wasn’t what made him that so much as his songwriting and his overall style. Still have a soft spot for that old radical, “Roland, The Headless Thompson Gunner” is one of the more peculiar and memorable songs of his. Very knowledgable of fairly obscure foreign intrigues.

I was definetly into Neil Diamond in the late 70's. I think I wore out Hot August Nights and Love at the Greek.

I have many fond memories of slow dancing (with a lady of course) to Neil’s songs.
