As I understand it, the bombs were highly sophisticated and likely to work well, if an informer hadn’t called the Saudis and given them the tracking numbers of the packages.
not only is it sad that this is a rare event that a journ-o-list questions authority but that the White House takes everything so personally.

A French minister said today that one of the bombs was just 17 minutes away from going off.
The plans were for the bombs to go off as they were approaching major US airports, causing great destruction on the ground as well.
The foreign press is much better at reporting on these incidents.

Yeah but that only makes sense if he escaped before the anticipated carnage; otherwise he'd be forced to stay put and deal with it. So if that's the case, he didn't expect a crisis until he could get far, far away. Hmmm.
