Wrong Number - Obama Doesn't Call
Sac Bee ^

Posted on 11/02/2010 8:13:40 AM PDT by rhc2000

Amid beer and champagne flowing in the clubhouse of the San Francisco Giants late Monday, one thing was missing. The president. Not the president of the ball club. The President of the United States. Giants players and personnel thought they'd hear from President Barack Obama by telephone after San Francisco beat the Texas Rangers 3-1 in Game 5 to capture its first World Series title since 1954. But Giants spokeswoman Staci Slaughter tells KNTV they have yet to take that call. Slaughter says team personnel gave the White House the private line into manager Bruce Bochy's office, as well as other numbers for Obama to get in touch - but so far, nothing. The Giants, though, are used to waiting. It's been 56 years since their last series title.

If it’s not all about him and golf it’s not on his radar. He has no intuitive sense of the gracious gesture.

There are few things more American than baseball. Hence, Obama (who is VERY obviously as unfamiliar with the sport as with everything else American) doesn't really care.

I side with Obama on this one. Ceremonial trivialities take up way too much of a television-age presidency.

Congratulating ballteams and buying the first Girl Scout cookies are cheap PR by a president for himself. Not the ballclub or charity. The fewer the better.

Just to hammer home the run:

Anyone remember if Ike called in 1954 to congratulate the New York Giants?

Some sports announcer last night pointed out that Bruce Bochy was six months old the last time the Giants won.

The last time the Giants won when the President was a Democrat was 1933--I don't know if FDR called to congratulate them (and they were his home-state NL team).

He is probably still stunned that they sang God Bless America in San Fran (7th inning stretch) and the fans did not boo. Surpised me.

Of course they sang it in Texas too but that is expected. Last nite they showed a shot of W while a military wife was singing it and W had his hand over his heart and his eyes were glassy. I hope we someday again have a president like him who loves America-heck, I would settle for one who even likes us a little.

To tell the truth I always hated it when presidents did this...

Me too. I think it was Nixon who started it. IMHO, it seems to be beneith the dignity office in some way. But I guess the politicians see it as an opportunity to get face time by basking in the glow of someone else's accomplishment.

“I side with Obama on this one. Ceremonial trivialities take up way too much of a television-age presidency.”

Sorry, but you could not be any more wrong.
While I have NEVER been a baseball fan, I recognize it as probably the most traditional of American sports.

There is far more to the presidency then being a snotty nosed narcissistic man child.
If he does not want to be part of Americana, where he happens to be the faux president, he can damn well go back to Kenya, where he belongs.

These ceremonial obligations are a waste of time. Obama did something right for once.

Ronald Reagan didn't think so. He knew ceremonies are one of the most important things any President does.

The worst was when Carter was just about ready to get trounced by Reagan and he shows up in the dressing room of the world series winner (can’t remember who the winner was.) The player getting interviewed was in ecstacy, of course, and talking the game and here’s Carter trying to get himself in the middle of it and the guy realizes who’s standing next to him and gives him a look of “are you nuts???” and then goes back to talking about the game.
