That's not my memory.

We all view something with rose-colored glasses.

My TRS-80 Model I never crashed. :)

I started on a PC clone called a Vendex with two floppy (i.e. real floppy) disk drives. I hated those things.

article claiming Linux is perfect

I don't think anyone is aying that Linux is "perfect". Just that it is superior to MS-Windows. As someone who has spent a considerable amount of time using both, I can definitely say I'm firmly in that camp. The vast majority of MS-Windows users have no knowledge to speak of about Linux, Unix, or OSX for that matter, so their opinions on the subject aren't really worth a hill of beans. I've found Unix systems to be far more efficient at letting me get actual work done, as opposed to fighting with the OS to make it do what I want. The fact that Unix is designed to be a multi-user system forces programmers to be more concious of the issues that surround that concept.

Your post is total horsesh*t. Total. Businesses, from common offices to engineering, run using Windows and they do jsut fine. No one I have ever met “fights” with Windows. Want to develop for Windows, just load Visual Studio and go. Want Office, just load and go. Your view that Windows servers are not multi-user designed just shows your ignorance of Windows servers. Microsoft server products dwarf those of Unix now and for good reason; they work and work well. Every Unix shop I have been to has had major issues with stability, upgrades, and outages. They are difficult to configure and administer and the costs do not justify their use.

Wow. I'm glad to know that your anecdotal evidence trumps his anecdotal evidence.

Actually, I knew this...it was a sarcastic comment that was meant to reflect on the editing, or lack thereof, done on the web site’s writing.

The misspelling is most likely intentional and tongue in cheek as that particular misspelling is a bit of a cliche/joke.

Survival of the fittest.

As far back as 2002, I built Mom a computer and put Windows XP on it, because that’s what she was used to. She still calls with computer issues on her Windows 7 laptop.

“What did you do?” I say.

“I downloaded some games and now they won’t uninstall and I keep getting pop-ups”.

“Hmmm...shouldn’t have downloaded games, huh?”

You have to realize, this is after 4138 episodes of Mom calling me with problems after I’ve told her not to do such dangerous things. I keep telling her to try Ubuntu, but she says she’s too old to learn something new. But, it’s not that hard...my wife and my son both use it without problems.

I told her to call Geek Squad. I simply can’t keep up with all the problems.

A few years back, I got him an old laptop and put Puppy Linux on it. Dad never calls with problems.
