I see a man stripped of all dignity by a government that was supposed to "help" him. Bereft of pride, reduced to being a supplicant. The option of being even a humble contributor to society denied him.
I grew up in a rural area around older black men, who's lives were likely much harder than this man's. They never lost their dignity or industry. They had pride in their abilities to endure if not prosper. I can only imagine how they would feel seeing this.
I often look at white trash today...we all know what I’m talking about...they have lost their identity
when i grew up poor country and working class urban whites had dignity and morals and were very good mannered...my kinfolks mostly...my paternal grandpa was the only one who had ever made it “big” and he got lucky and worked hard with war contracts
now...we haven’t brought UP any group, we’ve just brought down all groups to a lower level which can transcend money btw
I don't know if it's true for the person in the picture, but I can tell you that many of the ones you see begging for scraps and bereft of pride only have themselves to blame.
I would guess that the age of that guy is in the mid 40's, at least. Twenty or so years ago, he may have been one of the ones rejecting the examples and teachings of other black members of society, calling them "suckers", "Uncle Toms", "tools of the white man", et. al. for going to school, speaking proper English, not being influenced by racial hucksters, etc.
Now 20 years later, when the "chickens have come home to roost" so to speak, that guy has no job, no education, a jail record, and who knows what else. Instead, he is reduced to begging and pleading for "pie".
Just my guess, but I won't be shocked at all if this is that guy's life history. I've personally seen this play out in scores of black men (and women).
In other words: A subject, and not a citizen.
