It’s strictly for revenue. The safety aspect of being notified of an infraction on a right now basis is lost when one receives some notice in the mail from a State far from the scene ten to twelve days after an alleged violation.

Locally the fines are ridiculous, and if you wish to fight the allegation, they state up front if you lose the argument, you will have to pay an additional three hundred dollar penalty on top of the almost five hundred dollar fine. So what do most people do? Pay the fine for fear of having to pay an additional three hundred dollars due the odds are stacked against them from the git-go.

It’s criminal, and shouldn’t be legal to have these cameras IMO especially with procedures that virtually say screw you to the public. It’s a business designed to share the fines with the municipality. It’s all for money. It’s all for revenue.

Hold out, New Orleans!

I got 1/10 of one second into a red light - I guess I was guilty ‘cause the camera showed it, although I don’t even remember being on that road - and got fined $466!!! In California.

It’s beyond the bounds of sanity.

I certainly don’t miss the traffic cameras in Jefferson Parish.

I musta miss that one. I didn’t realize they were off in Jefferson Parish. Good news, though. It is just another rip off for the people. I work on a street by a high school and the police are always patroling it - so EVERYBODY goes 20 MPH.
