Yes, but the problem is that you only looked as far as the System Preferences pane. You didn’t bother to search over the interwebs to see if there were any alternatives.

Dark gray text on gray backgrounds provides extremely poor contrast.

Start reading different sites or use Reader mode.

I love Reader but I find that it doesn’t work with all sites, unfortunately...
