Speaking as a Brit who's just joined...
On topics where the majority of site seems to have a party line, make a post with your honest differing opinion and leave it at that. Don't continue to beat a dead horse which is what that poster tried to do as I remember. If posters hammer you with disagreement, make a reply bowing out of the exchange and don't post further to the thread trying to defend a position that others will never agree with.
Very few that frequent this site are open to seeing a line of rhetoric in a post and saying "oh, I have changed my mind." The typical poster here has already firmly set opinions on issues they post on.
Many of us that read a thread look at honest disagreement and consider it useful to consider even if you don't convince us -- what is boring is the disputing poster that won't give up posting his disagreement. That then becomes your espousment of that position that others consider non-conservative and ends up promotion of that position and Jim doesn't tolerate that.
Cato started and ended each speach he made to the Roman Senate with "Carthage must be destroyed" -- I imagine it got tiresome for his fellow senators.
Well, with respect to the word “schedule,” the Brits...
and Rush Limbaugh mispronounce it.
“It might help if you start a thread on Evolution/Creationism.
That always settles everyone down a bit.”
Or, better yet, criticize Apple computers. That never starts “fights” :-). You’ll learn a whole lot about how inferior you are if you don’t use them :-) !
Well, I didn’t get the sense from reading that thread that antiRepublicrat was advocating said agenda, but from some of the other posts, I can see that some folks seemed to think so, and probably made an issue about it.
You should have proabaly “pinged” antiRepublicrat in your response, the way I just did for this one. (space semi-colon and the members name.)
You should probably also learn that thin skins don’t hold up too well around here.

FR is a conservative site. We do not appreciate our members fighting against us on our conservative values and issues. If you wish to support homosexual marriage or homosexuals in the military or hate crimes against us for speaking out against government promotion of homosexuality thats your business, but youd better do it somewhere else and not on FR. If you value your posting privileges, that is. FR is pro-God, pro-life, pro-family, pro-marriage, pro-military, pro-traditional American conservatism and it is a privilege to post here. Those who support the godless liberal/Marxist destruction of our free society and our country are free to exercise their free speech rights elsewhere. I wont stand in your way.

I just got one myself, but don’t tell “The Crazies” :-).

Whoa!!! Wiping pepsi off the screen and trying to stop choking! THAT is just e v i l right there!
Wow, give me a chance to reply!
(I am trying to give specific answers to specific questions but that went out of the way as soon as I saw over 100 messages in the thread!)
OK - about me. 35, married, three kids, live in Yorkshire. Private contractor by trade, do lots of work for the police all over the country. I go to church - one of less than a handful of people under the age of retirement who still does where I live.
Methodist born and raised, but my father’s family hails from Plymouth and we’ve traced it back to 8th Century Cornwall. We’ve had a few Pilgrim Fathers in the old family tree. Naturally, I’m interested in history.
My wife’s a postgraduate historian from York who briefly served on the Parish Council but gave it up after getting fed up with the fact they never did anything (if you get the Vicar of Dibley stateside, then the Parish Council here was like that but with everyone in it like Eli in Last of the Summer Wine).
Her family background consists of a Catholic mother-in-law and a Protestant father-in-law from Northern Ireland who served in the British Forces (so no discussing politics at the dinner table there!)
Politics-wise, I’m Tory, as was my dad.
I’m REALLY anti-Unions, having had to (twice) join them for previous jobs and I found them to be wasters.
Somehow I knew you would find this thread.
You say potato, we say “spud”. Let’s call the whole thing ORF.
Don’t get me started on “French Fries”. Chips don’t run away from a fight.
Nice shoes.
I never understood that “zed” thing for the letter z.
Z is z. There is no D in Z.
Start that thread :-)
What would they use for weapons to fight for their families and their country?
Did they think their male children would automatically know how to use firearms?
Did they think that the enemy would wait until the UK Government ramped up weapons availability, trained the citizenry, etc.?
Do you think that all UK enemies are strictly "external" to the UK?
Do you think that those who have immigrated legally and illegally to the UK, and are openly advocating its transition to a Muslim state, are not collecting weapons even as you type away on your computer?
Do you think that the 2nd Amendment rights are about hunting?
Why would your Grandfathers have been appalled because someone in their family had come home saying Hey, Ive got myself a handgun?
Are you and/or your family "afraid" of handguns?
I've read recently that the UK is thinking about banning knives now. Do you think that is a good idea? Why/Why not?
Welcome to FR, suggest you read and heed my tagline - if you really are a Conservative.
What you’ve heard about us Americans is true.
We all are nuts.
This might come as a shock to you Colonials, but there’s a concept called “Time Zones” and due to the oppressive nature of the beast it’s bed time for me.
Either that, or all your clocks are wrong.
