Plenty of dogs have owners and are abandoned at pounds when they are picked up. I would guess that the majority of dogs euthanized at state facilities have owners who did not show up to get them back.

it's not really the pound's job to read the owner's mind.

This was a situation where it was known the owner was intent to get the dog back, not a deserted animal.

It should be pounds responsibility to make sure the dog isn't wanted.

Well considering they had the dogs owner hauled off to jail for breaking the dog out of the pound, someone with half a brain might have stopped to think hmmmm wonder if the old man is still in jail. I HATE kill shelters, thank GOD we do not have a kill shelter here and our town supports our humane society, Today at Home Depot a couple had the nicest, best behaved 9-month old Bichon-poodle cross that the original owner adopted at 10 weeks with his sister and then didn’t want him and took him to the pound, where this couple fostered and then fell in love and adopted him... nice, nice dog...... my bet is he got the better end of the deal if the owner wasn’t willing to even give him a chance as a tiny puppy before dumping him at the pound, I can imagine how his sister is being treated by that lady.
