NEW YORK -- The NFL could soon start suspending players for dangerous helmet-to-helment hits, vice president of football operations Ray Anderson told The Associated Press on Monday.
A day after several scary collisions in Sunday's games, Anderson acknowledged the league might need to do more than fining players to prevent such hits. "There's strong testimonial for looking readily at evaluating discipline, especially in the areas of egregious and elevated dangerous hits," he said in a phone interview. "Going forward there are certain hits that occurred that will be more susceptible to suspension. There are some that could bring suspensions for what are flagrant and egregious situations."
Anderson said the NFL could make changes in its approach immediately, with Commissioner Roger Goodell having the final say. League officials will consult with the union, but he didn't expect any opposition.

On what grounds should it cost Hall a suspension? Because Jackson got hurt?
I remember a few years ago when Darren Woodson tackled a guy in the air, no helmet to helmet and no penalty. Then, after the game, the receiver got a concussion and Woodson ended up with a fine. How is that a fair application o rules?
Coming out of college, Jackson weighed only 165 pounds and many teams passed him over because they felt he was so skinny if he got walloped, it would take him out of the game. That is what happened. Maybe Reid should be fined for not keeping Jackson running sideline routes.
Actually, a tackler just involves bringing the guy down, doesnt matter how. Some forms of tackling have been outlawed (helmet-helmet, clotheslines, horecollar), but they are still tackles.
In reality, the perfect form tackle is when you get a low center of gravity with feet squared up and put your head and shoulder into the ball carrying arm and follow through the other side. It always results in a tackle.
Wouldnt that be mainly because of the extra weight they carry into their 30? I cant imagine how many of them have knee issues or diabetes.

I dont know. They Cowboys have had back to back “excessive” celebration penalties after TD’s that led to great field position. Sure hope the Titans and Vikings players’ feelings didnt get hurt.
On the other hand, Im not sure the league actually likes the Cowboys.

No its not. It is an indication that you are trying to lower because the low man usually whens in tackling.
You usually try to dip down and explode up and forward.
I say turn the engineers loose.
Look at the huge improvements in safety in Nascar due to the HANS device and the SAFER barriers.
The players are bigger, stronger, and faster.
The equipment needs to be upgraded.
Remember the special helmet Mark Kelso of the Bills had with the resilient outer layer?

Shoulder??? Look at that clip, the slow motion part around 1:10...he lowers his head and slams him with it.
Yeah, he definitely hit him with his shoulder. his head was on the outside of Jackson’s arm. He lowered his head because he was lowering his shoulder. Try running a sprint and then lowering your shoulder without dropping your head as well.
He dropped his entire torso and exploded up. In now way was he leading with his helmet. The penalty was for hitting a defenseless receiver, which is probably the worst thing about this. If he doesnt hit Jackson, it is a big gain. If he does hit him, then Jackson is defenseless.
I think in the end, author Malcolm Gladwell may be right: the NFL may end up imposing size and weight limits on players. Don’t be surprised by 2015 that the NFL will mandate a 6 feet 5 inch height limit and players cannot weigh more than 255 pounds, if only to reduce the physical force of the hit.
Wrap the guy up and take him down. The game has devolved into blowing guys up with shoulder or helmet hits that might look good on ESPN but don’t always do the job.
The tackles should have tasers and if that don’t eliminate hits, issue them a .45.

Thanks for your 'official call.' But even the Browns say the first was a clean hit and they had no problem with it. The second was more 'iffy' according to the Browns.
BTW. It was the same player (James Harrison) who made both hits. Shows how close your were watching.
