Today's cigar was a PDR 1878 robusto that I purchased as part of a variety pack.
The wrapper is Brazilian, the binder is Dominican and the long filler is a Dominican & Nicaraguan mix.
It's been sitting in the humidor for about a few weeks waiting for this nice sunny Saturday in Oregon.
Appearance wise, it was quite nice. A dark Maduro wrapper that I enjoy so much and an impressively wrapped pigtail. Well wrapped and with a rather piquant bite to the smell of the cigar.
The guillotine cutter was used to remove the cap as the pigtail interfered with my cigar punch.
After walking back to my truck for a match as my lighter has run dry, I was able to fire this baby up.
An easy draw. And nice notes of spice right off the bat.
As I have found that with the easy draw cigars, I have a tendency to smoke them a bit hot, I decided to take a bit of a walk and do some thinkin'. That keeps me from puffing too much.
I think I am beginning to appreciate how the flavors can change along the length of the cigar, the peppery flavor became more subdued presenting a more chocolatey taste.
Lots of wonderful smoke, and a very nice ash retention. For fun I let the ash stay and it made it to a good 3" of ash before falling away.
Smoked this one right down to the nub.
I's call it a medium strength stick and can definitely recommend this item.
I may find a few more to keep on hand for times when the mood strikes me.
If you would be so kind, sir.
I have a Baccarat King (7x44) and a shot of Dewars waiting for the end of the ball game...One more out and I fire it up...Texas air will be better quality in a few minutes...
I had a Cuban for the end of the game, back in the humidor it goes.
I have one Cuban Cohiba left. One. And I’m not sure when to enjoy it.
However, I’ll probably just enjoy a Partagas Black Label in an hour or so. Maybe have some VSOP with it.
Sounds like a nice one!
Robustos are definitely my favorite size. anywhere froma 50 x 4.75 to 52 x 5 are a good 35-45 minute smoke!
I just orderd a five pack of “Perdomo 10th Cham Torpedos.” These received very good ratings on Famous Cigars. Should be here Monday!
By the way, if you ever want a nice medium body cigar with lots and lots of smoke and a nice white ash, I’d recommend the Padron 3000, either natural or maduro!
There’s a ping list for everything else on FR, do we have one for cigar aficionados?
Why is this the first time I’ve seen a cigar review on FR? Is there a ping list?

Famous has had some great sales on PDRs in the past few months. I haven’t tried this one (yet), but I am a big fan of the PDR Habano SG, the Clasicos and Seleccions as well.
They show up from time to time on http://www.cigarmonster.com with free shipping.

I love La Flor Dominicana’s! I had my last one when were still living in Florida on the Emerald Coast. I had a great tabacconist called Harbor Cigars in Destin Florida. They had a beautiful walk-in humidor! I wish I could describe to smell upon entering that beautiful hunidor!
While we love our new hom in Utah, walk-in humidors do NOT exist. I now but most of my sticks via Famous Cigars, or Thompson. My next order will include some La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Robustos!
Enjoy your cigar and double shot of Amaretto! I’m with you in spirit!
Yes there is a Cigar Ping ping list. This is part of it but I do not know how to capture and paste all the names.
www.atlanticcigar.com or JRs on the web.
I’ve got a couple of Oliva V’s in my humidor. I also love their Connecticut wrapper series.
I guess I should mention what I am smoking:
Camacho Corojo Maduro Cetro.
These seem to have reblended these—the old ones were great and the new ones are not quite as “in your face” but are good smokes as well.
