OKLAHOMA CITY -- Did you feel the earth shake at about 9:06 this morning? Well, reports are coming in and it appears that a minor earthquake did roll through the Oklahoma City area this morning. A 4.5 earthquake is what local news reports are saying.
We here at Red Dirt Report, here in mid-Oklahoma City, certainly felt it, noticing that the cats were startled and one fell off a table. What is interesting is that your Red Dirt Reporter has been predicting an earthquake in our area for a couple of weeks. I say that because I have noticed a number of "lost pets" signs tacked on poles. Some time ago I had heard that pets start "disappearing" - as our kitten did a few weeks ago - prior to earthquake activity.

A little early to be trolling...isn’t it Laz? ;-)
Memphis will be a complete disaster if hit by an earthquake. We have a son who works in Memphis and we keep in close contact with him.
Are these related to the New Madrid fault?
Most people think of California and earthquakes, but, the strongest earthquake in American history was on the New Madrid fault. It happened in 1811 or 1812, I believe, at a time when the area was sparsely populated. But it changed the course of the Mississippi River.
All the old factories, made of brick and since converted to lofts, restaurants, etc., will merely be a pile of bricks. What a mess it will be....Beale Street, etc. People have no idea how bad it will be, if it comes.
Hospitals as far away as Joplin will be used to evacuate injured to. I’ve read some of the prep work. Not pleasant...
You might as well say there's corn farming in Canada.
Or tornadoes in California...
If you live in OK and have never witnessed a tornado, you must not get out much! HAHA!
Brits pay huge $$ to travel OK just to see a twister. You’d make a very poor guide. /s!
You can say that again.
I’ve lived in OK since 1982 and the only tornado I was ever in was in Minot, North Dakota. Although one did touch down two blocks south of my house a few years ago.
But this was my first ‘felt’ earthquake.
I felt it in Tulsa. My building shook pretty good.
If The Big one hits the New Madrid fault, people in cities along its length will be so screwed it’s hard to imagine. A massive quake won’t be fun in So Cal either, but construction here has addressed seismic concerns since the 1930s. Not so much in the midwest.
I felt it in Edmond.
First time I have ever actually felt an earthquake in Oklahoma.
No, sorry, you didn't.
That would be like saying there was oil under the Artic ice pack.
I wish it was true, but saying there are earthquakes in Oklahoma is a lot like saying you can grow strawberries in Punjab.
Made the building shake, and not in the way that the aircraft engine run-ups or takeoffs do.
Been working up here for several years. It was a different feel, even from what we occasionally feel when the quarries set off a blast. Lasted longer too.
I hope your insurance covers earthquake damage...
I will post this question for the New Madrid Watchers

An earthquake in Oklahoma?
That's as likely as snow skiing in Hawaii.
