We have been married for so long, and still love each other so much that I would prefer to go with him, if I had the chance.
I hear you...Mrs. Hartley said they were racing away together when they saw the boats/guns...then he slowed down and got behind her...she thought he did that to protect her.
When she saw him hit, she turned around to get him and couldn’t lift him, and then made the decision to leave.
