I would like it a lot better if the judges scores were the sole deciding factor.

At least they would be basing their opinion on talent rather than popularity. I may not agree with their opinion, but their would be a basis for agreement or disagreement beyond the popularity of the particular celebrity. Furthermore, if my interest is to have a fair judge of talent, it is better to get the opinion of someone who has years of experience judging such performances.
