I know I’m in the minority, but I’d hate to see a full-blown playoff in CFB. Maybe one game after the 4 BCS bowls are played, but that’s it. CFB is the only major American sport where the regular season means everything. You have to be perfect. When the NFL goes to 18 games, there will be teams with 8 freakin losses going to the playoffs. Talk about commitment to mediocrity.
Also, the realignment should solve many problems. With NE to the B10, there will be a championship game, thus there can only be one undefeated team from that conference unless something really strange happens. The same goes for the P10 with CU and UU. The BXII is going to play a true round robin, so only one possible undefeated team from that conference.
The addition of Boise State, Nevada and Fresno State to the MWC should qualify that conference for an automatic BCS bid and would likely have only one possible undeated team.
If you keep the playoff to 8 teams, you’ll get all of the undefeateds plus the best 1- (and maybe 2-) loss teams. Good enough for me.
It’s a lit better than relying on computers and subjective polls. Let ‘em play it out on the field. Works for Div 1-AA (now FCS), Div 2, and Div 3.
