This appears to have been the campaign where the few dozen remaining members of the once mighty Susquehannock (for which the great river was named) tribe were murdered.
Long since converted to Christianity from their formerly warlike ways and eminently peaceful, the Sheriff of Lancaster, PA. had them put into the local jail for their protection. Sadly, a group of local militia/ne’er-do-wells who weren’t up to actually beating the bushes looking for real marauding Indians who might actually fight back, overpowered the guards and killed the defenseless Susquehannocks to the man, woman and child.
