EAST GREENWICH, R.I.- Firefighters in East Greenwich, R.I., organized a horse trailer as a temporary home for an 18-foot Burmese python they carried from a burning building.
Acting Fire Chief Peter Henrikson described the python as the largest snake he has ever seen. He said two firefighters were needed to make the rescue, although he kept his distance because he does not like snakes.
"It was 18 feet long and, at the center, it was as big as a Frisbee," he told The Providence Journal.
Firefighters learned the snake was on the premises when they arrived at Douglas St. Jean's burning house early Monday. St. Jean was outside with two dogs and a cat and told the firefighters the python was still inside in a cage inside.
"He told us it was docile," Henrikson said. "It creeped me right out."
Firefighters tried to stow the snake in a recycling bin, but it would not fit. So they brought a horse trailer.
Investigators said the fire started near a wood stove.
I have to agree with Maceman. I have had numerous snakes and only the gray rat snake was a biter. The rest sweet as pie even hungry.
I am more of the Velvetta cheese type of person....better living through chemicals and additives.....:O)
Velvetta is good in fried cheese sandwiches. YUMMY! Some of the world’s best tasting preservatives are right there!
Thin sliced tomatoes on grilled cheese is also good....another is small chopped pieces of green pepper added to the cheese before grilling...yummy. My daughter likes dill pickles but I don’t even want to try that one..
I’ll put habanero peppers or red onions on mine. I like the spices.
I’ll have to try the onion...love them..thanks
