Well,I know it must be relative progress, but becoming sharecroppers still leaves the Dalit struggling, at the mercy of others, and at the bottom rung of the ladder. The Bible siad the Pharoah enslaved the people when he let them work their land but only allowed them to keep 90% of their harvest and the Pharoah took 10%. He owned the land after the droughts; the people gave him the land for his stored food.

The economic changes themselves are significant. What is much more significant are the social changes.

However, there is still a long way to go.
