Distilled spirits are accepted in the Atkins diet, as there are no carbohydrates present in the distillate. Beer on the other hand is infused with carbs. Go with Bushmills, Glenmorangie or Aberlauer and, by all means, eschew Budweiser. Experience speaks. Single malt Scotch will set you free. Trust me on this point. sd

Single malt Scotch will set you free.

Nectar of the gods. As a teetotaler by necessity, single malt is one thing I truly miss, but hey, at least I knew it when!

Free Descendant (great screenname!), I'm a teetotaler, and I don't hold with teetotalling, and wouldn't recommend it unless you, like me, are allergic to alcohol. Some people eat strawberries and they break out in a rash: I drink (yes, even the sainted single malt), and I break out in handcuffs, arrests, and derangement.

THAT SAID, when I stopped drinking altogether (this was many moons ago), I dropped weight dramatically.

I'm an old-fashioned person who comes from a long line of people who just naturally ate by what folks call "the Atkins" approach, it sounds to me. A healthy way to eat: unless you're expending a lot of physical energy, go easy on the starches (rice, corn, potatoes, pasta, bread) and carbs but be sure to eat some, like one with each meal or skip it and have something starchy as a snack; all the protein, vegies, and fruit you want; and if you feel like having a candy bar, have one! ;^) That last one is probaby why I was pudgy enough to lose weight when I quit drinking! And why I've still got a nice pillow around my middle. *sigh*
