Yes, advancement at any cost to society. I am not a racist, but I think the problem is cultural. I remember when as an undergraduate I took my first engineering physics class and had to work extremely hard to get a B. It was no fun and I can imagine someone without a good work ethic just giving up. Unfortunately, minority culture does not always reward hard work, so I am sure it would be culture shock for a lot of them to find out how hard it is to get an engineering or science degree.
