Since schools are starting to teach whole-word memorization instead of phonics, many kindergardeners will fail this test.
Cool question.
It tests visual, auditory, speech, reading and comprehension all at once.
“duk” —> “kup”
I like it a lot ;-)
When I was a kid our 2nd grade teacher began one ‘test’, first by announcing there were 100 things to do on it. The first item on the test read: “Read all questions before beginning this test.”
The next item read: “Stand up and pat your head...”
The next: “Rub you tummy...”
The test did not give enough time to complete all remaining items - but they were pretty much “Hop in place 25 times..” and so on.
The last item read: “If you followed the first item and read through all questions FIRST - congratulations! Put your head down and rest for ten minutes.
This actually troubles me, because the implication is that they can use this to determine your future career path, like they did in the former Soviet Union, based on tests taken at a early age. Whether you were going to wind up as a factory worker or go on to University was pretty much determined by the time a kid was in the 5th or 6th grade.
Kindergarten was the best 3 years of my life!
Does this test assume kindergarteners can read the word? I can’t remember to what degree I was literate when I was in Miss Clayton’s kindergarten class. However, I do remember her beautiful assistant, Miss Ables...oh, and my first love, Carla Stanger.
I’ll ask my 4.5 year old this tonight and see if he passes.
But as Latisha, Shaliqua and Ashaliqua have never SEEN a duck, the question is determined to be RAAACIST and is therefore disallowed. As a result, EVERYBODY passes.
The answer, of course, is “A & C” ...
No wonder my life is crap. I never got this question. After “color the 5 bears brown,” I started claiming I had a headache every morning so that was the end of kindergarten. It was a lot more fun to sit on my dad’s lap and read Time Magazine to him.
Hmm...lessee, “cup” - I give up. Is it the rocket ship, the eagle, or the rowboat?

The story doesn’t say when this kindergarten test is administered. Is it at the beginning of kindergarten or at the end? They give the test two or three times during the kindergarten school year. It has several parts that contribute to the total score. One section is identifying letters in the alphabet. One section is identifying the sounds that each letter makes. I think there is another section that deals with sounding out nonsense words. (words that aren’t really words) I never paid attention to whether or not my older children were given these tests in kindergarten. (DIBELS test) But I know my fourth grader was given these tests in kindergarten through third grade. My first grader also took the tests in kindergarten and at the start of this school year.
Cup = Pinta, one of Christopher Columbus's boats....
Many of the graphs are intentionally misleading by not starting the vertical axis at zero. I'm glad I didn't pay for this propaganda. Why is it colleges claim credit for people's brains and incomes yet all they really do is filter out as many idiots as they can afford to.
