I have it. Have had it probably about 6 months. No incidents, so I really don’t know how they would be in action; but it’s kinda a sign up and forget it kind of thing. They contact me occasionally to tell me all is well.
I'm sure you could do what they do on your own but it doesn't cost that much and they say they will call you if someone is checking your credit in order to make a purchase, to make sure it is you.
You also get your credit report from the three agencies once a year. Not your score but your reports.
Saves a lot of hassle that you would have to do yourself. I'm just lazy.
Pre-Paid Legal Identity Theft Shied is a better and more comprehensive service. Life Lock claims to help you “resolve” you identity theft problems, Pre-Paid Legal actually restores it for you and does all the work for you. Life-Lock just tells you what you need to do and you are pretty much on your own.
Remember the Life-Lock commercials where the owner posted his SSN on a truck and dared/invited people to try to steal his identity. Don’t see that ad any more because someone used his SSN to steal his identity and got away with several thousand dollars in cash and stuff.
The perps couldn’t be prosecuted because the guy invited people to just that, so where’s the crime.
I’m happy with Lifelock.
Anyone can get those reports for FREE at www.annualcreditreport.com (NOT freecreditreport.com).
I’ve had it or years. They send your credit report to you once a year...They always report what they should...like if I put in for a credit card, they report immediately that my credit’s been checked...so it works. I’m keeping it.
Where do you get this service?
CA....
Have had it for three years....nothing to report. Which is the point. Did appreciate the phone call from them, while we were sitting in the car dealership signing papers. They were confirming it was us taking out the loan.
I ended up stuck at an airport, because a car rental place wouldn't rent me a car because my card had a credit alert on it (which is how LifeLock insures that identity thieves don't buy big-ticket items on a stolen card). The theory was that the rental place was supposed to call the credit card support line, which would call me to verify that it was a legitimate charge, and everything would be fine.
However, there was a line behind me that was going to take at least an hour to process, and the clerk was unwilling to slow things down to make special calls on my behalf (and I don't blame him).
Also, the company's founder had a seemingly shady past. He is no longer with the company, but that made me uncomfortable with the company at the time.
