Remakes are a sound business strategy in Hollywood. But
your point is well taken. Hollywood likes to build on
previous success. (Translation: management is afraid to
take risks.)

The only TV show I would like to see them remake would be the Untouchables, and the part of Elliot Ness should be played by Thomas Gibson. I love him in Criminal Minds, and he is so serious, just like Robert Stack was in the old TV series.

It's not a matter of originality, it's a matter of being afraid that someone is going to do something 10x better than some union writer.
You'd be surprised at the rules involved in making a movie/tv show. You can't get hired as an actor or a writer (and I'm sure many other positions) unless you're union in most cases. You can't get in the union unless you work on a union backed project.Those that get involved outside of the union have some sort of "network" they go through. Crazy huh?
