So I'm setting up a new Compaq 500b MT today and I noticed a new connector next to the PCI slot. It looks like it's a SODimm type connector(except it is missing the "snaps") for perhaps a cache chip or something. Anyone have any information on what the purpose of this connector is? I checked all the manuals, none seem to refer to it. I googled the Foxconn connector but didn't find anything.
It's probably for some future thing as some of the older Compaqs I just checked didn't have one. Not a big deal, just curious.
This is from one of the manuals:
Here's a closeup:

Thoughts? I set up quite a few computers every year, this is the first time i've noticed this connector. I guess I could have just missed 'em!

The closeup looks like the back side of a cable connector.
I am as puzzled as you are.

I don’t think it’s enough pins for a Mini-PCI connector, so it’s probably a proprietary connector for something like a Bluetooth, Wireless or Infared interface board.

That's where you hook your Byte-Meter (tm).

It's a BamaReader, which searches all input for anything insulting to DearLeader, notifies the IRS, who immediately launch an audit of your accounts for the past 7 years, and will continue for the rest of your natural life.
Plausible?

Almost looks like a bank of fixed factory jumpers. I notice the J105 label near the back end.

It looks like a mini PCI-Express port. Yup, I think you're right.
There are a couple standoff posts in the proper position to screw said card down.
Mystery solved. I wonder why it's not referenced in any of the documentation.

There are a couple standoff posts in the proper position to screw said card down. And it looks like an outline on the MB of where the card will go.

Mini PCI-Express. You’ll find them on a lot of notebooks, and they’re quickly making their way to desktops. I have a HP Firebird desktop that uses one as well.

I have seen them in Laptops, usually the wifi/bluetooth slots I just have never seen it in a desktop so it threw me off. I didn't even notice the standoffs until it was identified further up thread.
